Refugees to stay on ship for the foreseeable future
One ship with Ukrainian refugees arrived in Scotland earlier in the year, and last week, the second one arrived.
There aren’t homes for these refugees who have just arrived in Scotland, so the majority of the refugees are staying on the ship.
Until there is somewhere available for them to live, the Ukrainian refugees to have been forced to leave their country due to Russia’s invasion, will continue to call the ship home.
Scotland’s minister with special responsibility for Ukrainian refugees, Neil Gray, said the ship would provide “safe and sustainable” accommodation while people were waiting to be matched with long-term housing.
He added: “The arrival of the MS Ambition is a key part of that provision, which means we are providing sanctuary to more displaced people per head of population than any other part of the UK.
“We do not want people spending more time in temporary accommodation, such as the cruise ships, for any longer than is absolutely necessary.
“We continue to take significant action to increase our temporary accommodation capacity as well as boosting our matching system to maximise the number of people who can be placed with volunteer hosts.”
